Green for Life, by Victoria Boutenko
First, a caution: Don’t do what I did, and slam a quart of fruit-filled smoothie in 15 minutes or less every single morning for a year. The result was dizzy spells associated with jacking up my blood sugar (which has never been very stable to begin with).
That said, this book will revolutionize the position of leafy-greens in your life. I’ve seen a petite glass of kale smoothie add quality of life to the most stressed out over-achievers, and clarity to the life of the foggy-headed. Experiment! One of my favorite smoothies (on page 180) just romaine lettuce and honeydew melon, with some water. Amazing!
The Omnivore’s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan
This first-hand narrative (works especially well as an audio book) explores of what is wrong with our modern “food” systems, and goes on to articulate what sanity-in-food looks like. In-depth and expansive, it will blow your mind, even if you think you “already know” it all.
Yogaworks Online
Fortunately I was able to attend in-person classes with some excellent teachers for a few years. When I moved to a more rural location, online classes became the norm. If you’re in doubt about the efficacy of online classes, while in-person is the best, this service provides a great diversity of classes, including lots of instruction which is enormously helpful.
A few of the online courses I really like are:
- Level 1: Morning Coffee Class, Melanie Lora Meltzer
- Level 2: Pelvic Floor to the Core, by Mia Togo
- Level 2: (but feels like Level 3) Yin Yang, by Vytas Baskauskas
