Welcome to Tier 3 of Financial resources. These items are those with which I have limited experience, but like what I have seen so far, enough to feel they may be of use to you.
Credit Unions: a Wealth of Resources
In the U.S., visit the National Credit Union Service Organization to find options in your state. Check out the wikipedia page on credit unions for an overview.
Article: Goodbye, Wells Fargo; Hello, Credit Union
“Credit unions…are member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide savings, credit and other financial services to their members. Credit union membership is based on a common bond, a linkage shared by savers and borrowers who belong to a specific community, organization, religion or place of employment. Credit unions pool their members’ savings deposits and shares to finance their own loan portfolios rather than rely on outside capital. Members benefit from higher returns on savings, lower rates on loans and fewer fees on average.” World Council of Credit Unions
Student Debt: Equal Justice Works
Don’t go it alone! Find help! Or better yet, attend a school in another country (cool article!) and forgo school debt all together: 7 Countries Where Americans Can Study At Universities, In English, For Free (or Almost Free)
“The high cost of education and the burden of student debt prevents many from pursuing and remaining in public interest careers. Our Educational Debt Relief program is devoted to advocating for student debt relief and spreading the word to make sure those who need relief are taking the right steps to qualify. Our detailed and user-friendly resources are available to help prospective students, current students and graduates; school advisors and administrators; and employers.” Equal Justice Works
The Solari Report
Subscription-based. Some free resources available, like blogs.
“Our mission is to help you build wealth in ways that build real wealth in the wider economy. We believe that personal and family wealth is a critical ingredient of both individual freedom and community health and wealth.” Solari
Mint.com
I never really got off the ground with this one, but I did like some things about the interface. Perhaps it will be the thing that works for you?
Turbo Tax
Another Intuit offering. There are some things about this that I don’t like–such as the sneaky way they slip in those charges after you’ve done all of the work so it’s just too hard to say no–but I have to give credit where it’s due: this program has made my taxes as easy as falling off a log…or, as close as taxes can get.
